Selection and Assessment for Unmanned Aerial System (UAS)/Drone Operators
The Stealth Adapt test battery assesses the entire spectrum of personal attributes needed for effective UAS operations - in an immersive, game-based environment. The SATURN solution (Stealth Adapt’s unmanned systems training counterpart) was developed to help UAS operators maintain attentional control during long missions. Immersing the user in realistic UAS mission scenarios, the system measures an array of attentional skills including multitasking, concentration, resistance to distractions, and mental endurance – providing a baseline for the next tailored mission challenge.

Over 50% of all UAS mishaps are attributed to human factor issues, beginning with poorly defined UAS operator selection capabilities. A product of the Department of Defense’s Small Business Innovative Research program, Adaptive Immersion Technologies developed the Stealth Adapt assessment system to meet the U.S. military’s current and future UAS operator talent selection requirements. The Stealth Adapt system is an adaptive, game-based assessment designed to measure different aspects of operators’ cognitive skills and personal attributes predictive of mission success, and is now available as a commercial drone operator testing product. The simulation immerses the player in a realistic search-and-rescue mission environment and challenges them to optimize various mission outcomes, employing algorithmic stealth assessment technology behind the scenes to assess cognitive skills and predict real-world mission performance.
Developed, verified, and validated within military UAS operations, Stealth Adapt supports efficient and accurate selection of qualified operators. This will help reduce selection and training costs; reduce the probability of catastrophic failures; and enable increased productivity and successful mission accomplishment.

SATURN
Sponsored by the Department of Defense Small Business Innovative Research program, Adaptive Immersion Technologies developed Sustained Attention Training in Unmanned & Remote Navigation (SATURN) – an adaptive, game-based training system, designed to help UAS operators develop and retain attention control related skills essential for mission performance. With a persistent performance measurement capability, SATURN constantly adapts the training content based on the unique cognitive skill strengths and weaknesses measured for each individual. SATURN requires minimal instructor intervention, enabling trainees to practice frequently on a variety of different missions and operational requirements.
SATURN’s AI-driven skill assessment and learner personalization technology is to enhance operators’ overall attention during unmanned operations. By frequently practicing training content—automatically engineered to provide the optimal level of challenge—operators can enhance their overall effectiveness during mission operations, proactively responding to changes in the operational tempo.
